Doris Places 7th in Olympic Debut

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Former University of Iowa All-American Troy Doris placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 16.90 meters at the 2016 Rio Olympics on Tuesday.

RIO DE JANEIRO — Former University of Iowa All-American Troy Doris placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 16.90 meters at the 2016 Rio Olympics on Tuesday.
 
Doris was making his Olympic debut for the Republic of Guyana. He advanced to the finals with a mark of 16.81 meters on Monday.  He entered the field ranked seventh with a personal best 17.10 meters, a Guyanese national record, and finished the Olympics in seventh.
 
The United States swept the top two spots. Christian Taylor won gold at 17.86 meters, and Will Claye earned silver at 17.76 meters. China’s Bin Dong won bronze at 17.58 meters.
