IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa rowing program’s season opener has been cancelled due to high water levels on the Des Moines River and anticipated rainfall near Fort Dodge.

The Head of the Des Moines rowing regatta, previously scheduled for Saturday on the Des Moines River, has been docked for the first time in the 33-year history of the event.

The Hawkeyes were expected to race two boats in the Women’s Collegiate Novice Race 8. Iowa will instead open the fall season Oct. 7-8 in Bloomington, Indiana.
