IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa wrestlers Michael Kemerer, Spencer Lee, Alex Marinelli, and Brandon Sorensen were named to the 2018 National Wrestling Coaches Association Division I All-Academic Team, the NWCA announced Thursday.

The academic team is made up of 155 total athletes, including five NCAA Champions, seven NCAA runner-ups and 42 All-Americans. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a 3.2 grade point average and have won 60 percent of their matches, or maintain a 3.0 GPA while earning All-America honors.

Kemerer and Sorensen were named to the team for the second straight year. The NWCA honors were the firsts for Lee and Marinelli.

Sorensen, a senior from Cedar Falls, Iowa, graduates in May with a degree in sports and recreation management. He earned his fourth All-America honor in 2018, placing fifth at the NCAA Championships.

Kemerer, a sophomore from Murrysville, Pennsylvania, is a finance major. He was an All-American for the second straight year, placing fourth at the NCAA Championships.

Lee is a true freshman and sports and recreation management major from Murrysville, Pennsylvania. He won the 125-pound NCAA title at the national tournament.

Marinelli is a sports and recreation management major from Miamisburg, Ohio. The redshirt freshman was an All-American at 165 pounds, placing sixth at the NCAA Championships.

Iowa has had at least one representative on the NWCA All-Academic team every year since Tom Brands was named head coach in 2006.
