IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa volleyball team (9-4, 1-1) fell to No. 18 Michigan, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa volleyball team (9-4, 1-1) fell to No. 18 Michigan, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (22-25) Iowa started with the game’s first point after a Michigan service error and led 9-4 before a Wolverine timeout shifted momentum toward Michigan. The Wolverines battled back to even the score at 11. Junior Cali Hoye and freshman Amiya Jones traded off kills, but Michigan took the lead at 16-19. After an Iowa timeout Iowa, led by two kills by Hoye and one by junior Meghan Buzzerio, tied the score at 21. Michigan rallied back with two kills and an ace to take the first set.

SET 2 (30-28) In the longest set of the match, Iowa and Michigan battled through 25 points as the Hawkeyes looked to even the match at one set each. Iowa’s attack featured Hoye, who finished the set with 8 kills on 24 attempts. Hoye killed three of Iowa’s last four points. Senior Taylor Louis capped off the marathon set with a kill. She finished the set with four kills.

SET 3 (23-25) The Hawkeyes started the third set strong at 4-3, but a challenge brought momentum back toward Michigan. Iowa and Michigan traded points, tying six times before the Wolverines took an extended lead at 16-20. Kills by Louis and Hoye brought Iowa back within one point and back-to-back blocks by freshman Amiya Jones and senior Reghan Coyle gave Iowa a brief lead at 22-21. However, Michigan closed the third set with three consecutive kills.

SET 4 (22-25) The Hawkeyes dug themselves a big hole in the fourth set, falling behind 9-17 before battling back to make it a one point game at 20-21 thanks to a barrage of kills by Hoye, Jones, and Buzzerio. However, Michigan prevailed in the final few points, taking the final set 22-25.

NOTABLES
·       Senior Molly Kelly set a new career-high with 29 digs.
·       Junior Meghan Buzzerio’s 12 digs marks a season high.
·       Freshman Amiya Jones set a new career-high with eight blocks.
