Craig Sandvig Inducted into the UTSA Missouri Valley HOF

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former University of Iowa men’s tennis standout Craig Sandvig was one of three inductees into the 2019 United State Tennis Association (UTSA) Missouri Valley Hall of Fame Class on Monday. The Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have served the game of tennis through their play, dedication to volunteerism and their passion for improving the game.
 
In Sandvig’s time at Iowa he recorded a 30-16 record in singles and 34-18 in doubles. His singles and doubles win percentage each ranks seventh in program history. He lettered from 1969-71 and was a part of teams that finished third and fourth in the Big Ten conference in 1971 and 1969, respectively.
 
Sandvig’s impact on St. Louis area tennis permeates all levels of tennis. He excelled at the University of Iowa and the European Pro Circuit before relocating to St. Louis in 1971, where he would spearhead a nationally-recognized junior tennis program at Sunset Tennis Center.
 
Along with coaching many nationally successful players and teams, Sandvig has served USTA Missouri Valley in numerous ways including directing several tournament series, serving on committees, and serving as USTA St. Louis vice president of junior tennis. A few of his most prestigious awards include the 2001 USPTA Missouri Valley Missouri Pro of the Year, 2003 USTA Tennis National Recognition Program All-American Team, and 2005 USTA Missouri Valley Outstanding Contributor to the USTA League Tennis Program, and 2013 USTA St. Louis Distinguished Service Award.
