CARBONDALE, Ill. – The University of Iowa softball team defeated University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB), 12-0, and Miami University (OH), 2-1, in a doubleheader on Sunday.

Iowa tallied 10 hits vs. UWGB and five hits vs. Miami (OH).

Junior Allison Doocy excelled for the Hawkeyes in the circle, pitching 10 innings and picking up 10 strikeouts, while allowing one run.

Sophomore Aralee Bogar led Iowa at plate, notching four RBIs, four hits, and one home run.

The Hawkeyes have won three of their last four games.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1 vs. University of Wisconsin-Green Bay  

Sophomore Aralee Bogar led the Hawkeyes off in the top of the first with a home run – her first of the season.

The Hawkeyes wasted no time in second with hits by junior Liz DeShields and sophomore Ashley Hamilton. Senior Mallory Kilian contributed a double. Iowa scored four in the second, making it 5-0.

The Hawkeyes added onto their lead, scoring for the third straight inning. Freshman Abby Lien, DeShields, junior Lea Thompson, and Bogar all notched hits, while Ketcham ripped a triple, scoring two runs.
The score was 9-0 going into the bottom of the third.

Iowa added an insurance run in the fourth with Bogar’s fourth RBI of the game to extend Iowa’s lead to 12-0.

With a 12-0 lead, the Hawkeyes forced their first run-rule victory of the season in the fifth inning.

 Game 2 vs. Miami University (OH)

The Hawkeyes and Redhawks went scoreless through two innings before the Redhawks broke the tie in the third.

An inning later, Iowa battled back with a single from Kilian and an RBI double from junior DoniRae Mayhew to knot the score at one apiece.

In the sixth, Bogar and Mayhew broke the tie. Following a single from Bogar, Mayhew notched her second RBI double of the day, giving Iowa a 2-1 advantage heading into the final frame.

Iowa played relentless defense in the top of the seventh to close out its win, 2-1. Doocy earned her second win of the day and 12th of the season.

The Hawkeyes travel to Normal, Ill., to play Illinois State on Wednesday, March 20, before opening their Big Ten slate in West Lafayette, Ind., for a three-game series at Purdue. The series starts Friday, March 22, at 6 p.m. (CT)
