WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue made 11 first-half 3-pointers and eight more in the second half in a 104-68 victory over the 17th-ranked University of Iowa men’s basketball team Wednesday night at Mackey Arena.
Junior Luka Garza scored the game’s first points 18 seconds in to give Iowa a 2-0 lead before the Boilermakers blitzed the Hawkeyes, hitting three 3-pointers during a 17-0 run. Purdue’s 3-point barrage saw the lead climb to as many as 27 points (61-34) in the first half.
The Boilermakers made 55 percent of its 3-point field goals (11-of-20) and Purdue shot 64.9 percent (24-of-37) to build a 61-36 halftime lead.
Purdue cooled off, but just mildly, in the second half, making 8-of-14 second half 3-pointers and 17-of-28 field goals. The Boilermakers shot 63.1 percent from the floor and 55.9 percent from 3-point land for the game. The 19 3-pointers are a school record.
Garza was the only Hawkeye to reach double figures, finishing with 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting in 31 minutes. Senior Ryan Kriener had nine points and four rebounds, while redshirt freshman CJ Fredrick and sophomore Joe Wieskamp scored eight apiece.
Iowa shot 42.6 percent from the floor and went just 6-of-25 from 3-point range. Purdue out-rebounded the Hawkeyes, 34-24, and forced 14 Hawkeye turnovers.
Five Boilermakers reached double figures and seven players made at least one 3-point field goal. Purdue assisted on 29 of its 41 field goals.

- Garza led all scorers tonight with 26 points, becoming the first Hawkeye since Fred Brown in 1971 to register 20+ points in eight consecutive Big Ten games. Garza tallied 25+ points for the ninth time this season and fifth time in seven games. Garza’s point total moved the junior past James Moses for 19th on Iowa’s all-time scoring chart with 1,352 points.
