Hawkeyes Host Texas Tech in Home Opener

THIS WEEK:
The University of Iowa men’s tennis team will host three matches this weekend starting with Texas Tech on Thursday night at 6 p.m. (CT). On Saturday, the Hawkeyes will face a doubleheader against Western Michigan (11 a.m) and Creighton (4 p.m.) at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center. Admission is free for all matches.

TEXAS TECH BREAKDOWN:
• The Red Raiders return seven student-athletes from last season’s squad.
• Seniors Thomson/Wynn were ranked as the No. 2 doubles team in the country for a portion of the fall season.
• Texas Tech owns a 3-1 advantage over the Hawkeyes; Iowa’s last win against the Red Raiders (4-3) was Jan. 28, 2017, in Lubbock.

WESTERN MICHIGAN BREAKDOWN:
• The Broncos enter this weekend’s action 2-0 and will face Drake on Friday before facing Iowa on Saturday.
• Western Michigan was selected in the preseason to win the MAC for the third consecutive season under head coach Dave Morin.
• In his 23rd season, Morin has collected the most wins in program history (404).
• Iowa is 13-9 all-time against Western Michigan; Iowa’s last win came last year in Iowa City, 6-1.

CREIGHTON BREAKDOWN:
• The Bluejays feature a veteran roster, eight of its nine student-athlers are upperclassmen.
• Head coach Tom Lilly is in his 22nd season with the program.
• Iowa is 6-0 all-time against Creighton dating back to 2011. Iowa has also never surrendered a point to the Bluejays.

HAWKEYE NOTABLES:
• Senior Kareem Allaf is ranked a personal-best No. 60 in the country.
• Will Davies and Oliver Okonkwo are ranked 16th nationally in doubles; its the highest ranking a doubles team has ever had in program history.
• The Hawkeyes are coming off one of its best seasons in 20 years, finishing fifth in the Big Ten and knocking off three ranked Big Ten foes.
• Lloyd Bruce-Burgess joined Ross Wilson’s staff last week as the assistnat men’s tennis coach. He was previously with the University of South Florida.

HEAD COACH ROSS WILSON:
Ross Wilson, a former two-time NCAA All-American and three-time ITA national doubles champion at Ohio State, is in his sixth season as head coach and seventh year with the Iowa men’s tennis program.
