IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa freshman Caitlin Clark was named to the Dawn Staley late season watch list, the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia announced Friday.
The Dawn Staley Award is given to the most outstanding collegiate guard in the country; a player who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed during her career — ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball and her will to win. Four finalists will be announced in mid-March and the winner will be announced the weekend of the NCAA Final Four. The award will be presented Thursday April 8.
Clark has recorded 102 assists, ranking fourth nationally, and tallied 384 total points, ranking fifth in the NCAA. She ranks fifth and eighth, respectively, in points per game (25.6) and assists per game (6.8).
The West Des Moines, Iowa, native ranks in the top-17 nationally in eight additional statistical categories, including second in triple doubles (1), third in 3-pointers attempted (132), 10th in 3-pointers made (47), 11th in field goals made (127), 12th in 3-pointers per game (3.13), 13th in free throws made (83), 16th in field goal attempts (278), and 17th in free throw attempts (101).
Clark and the Hawkeyes return to action on Sunday inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena when they host No. 17 Indiana in Iowa City, Iowa. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. (CT) on ESPN2.
