Hawkeyes Earn 10th Conference Win, Best in School History

Piscataway, New Jersey – The No. 39 University of Iowa women’s tennis team improved to 10-4 in the Big Ten with a 5-2 win against Rutgers on Friday afternoon at the Rutgers Tennis complex. The 10 victories mark the most conference wins in program history.

The Hawkeyes started out the match capturing the doubles point. Alexa Noel and Samantha Mannix got back in their winning groove with a 6-2 win over Rutgers’ Maya Jacobs and Chloe Brown at the No. 1 spot. Elise van Heuvelen and Samantha Gillas captured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Tess Fisher and Alisa Prinyarux at the No. 2 spot.

After having a week off, The Hawkeyes came out ready to play in singles with three wins at the top three spots. Samantha Mannix carried her momentum from last time out, defeating Sydney Kaplan, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. No. 87 Van Heuvelen defeated Tess Fisher, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. This only puts her two wins behind Liz Canzoneri for fourth in career singles wins (92).

No. 20 Alexa Noel continued her undefeated season in singles with a, 6-2, 6-3 win over Maya Jacobs at the No. 1 spot to clinch the victory. Her straight-set win puts her at 20-0 on the season. She has won 18 of 20 matches straight sets.

Rutgers came away with two singles points at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Chloe Brown defeated Iowa’s Michelle Bacalla, 7-5, 6-5, at the No. 5 spot, and Jaci Cochrane defeated Iowa’s Vipasha Mehra, 6-2, 7-6 at the No. 6 spot.

Samantha Gillas was the only match to go to into three-sets at the No. 4 position. The Junior defeated Alisa Prinyarux, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 to close out the match.
