COLEGE STATION, Texas — The University of Iowa men’s track and field team sent 10 athletes through to the quarterfinals on Friday and qualified one athlete to Eugene for the NCAA national finals. Jamal Britt advanced in both hurdle events.
James Carter, Jr., punched his ticket to Eugene for the NCAA finals with a seventh-place finish in the long jump and a mark of 7.73 meters (25-feet, 4 1/2-inches). Carter will try to double dip and advance to Eugene in the triple jump Friday.
Jaylan McConico recorded the fastest time of the first round of the 110 hurdles with a time of 13.34 seconds. Britt won his section and sits third overall with a time of 13.47. Josh Braverman recorded a career-best of 13.69 to finish 12th and advance to Friday’s quarterfinal.
Wayne Lawrence Jr., qualified for the 400-meter quarterfinals with a time of 46.34 to finish 15th.
Alec Still led the way for the Hawkeyes in the 800 meters by finishing 14th with a time of 1:48.96. Tyler Olson was 18th with a career-best of 1:49.11. Still and Olson punched their tickets to Friday’s quarterfinal.
Britt finished second in his section of the 400-meter hurdles first round and 11th overall with a time of 50.79 to advance to the quarterfinal. Austin Lietz finished third in his section and 15th overall with a career-best time of 50.92 to advance to the quarterfinal Friday.
Elijah Barnes finished 20th in the shot put with a throw of 18.33 meters.
Antonio Woodard finished third in his section of the 200 meters with a time of 20.82. Austin Kresley was right behind in fourth with a career-best time of 20.83. Woodard and Kresely finished 20th and 21st overall to advance to the quarterfinal.
