IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa field hockey team received an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, it was announced during Sunday’s NCAA Selection Show. The Hawkeyes (16-2) are the No. 2 overall seed where they will host American at Grant Field on Friday, Nov. 12 in Iowa City, Iowa.
It is the first time the Hawkeyes will host an NCAA Tournament game since 1999.
“We are ecstatic to be the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament,” said Iowa head coach Lisa Cellucci, the unanimous Big Ten Coach of the Year. “This group proved each week that we were one of the top teams in the country and I am so glad they were rewarded for their hard work.
“There are four outstanding teams coming to Iowa City this weekend and we look forward to a great weekend on Grant Field.”
Northwestern and defending national champion North Carolina will also play in Iowa City on Nov. 12 and the two winners will square off for a spot in the Final Four on Nov. 14.
“The team is stoked to be hosting the first round of the NCAA Tournament,” said senior Maddy Murphy. “This season has been unbelievable with the support from the community, so we’re hoping to get a lot of Hawkeye fans out to Grant Field for the game. We have a lot of hockey left in us and it’s going to be a great match.”
