CANOVAS, PR. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team is tied for 11th at 564 (-12) through two rounds at the Puerto Rico Classic. No. 12 Georgia extended its lead to four strokes ahead of No. 1 Oklahoma heading into Tuesday’s final round at the Grand Reserve Golf Club.
Junior Mac McClear is out in front for Iowa in a tie for 24th on the leaderboard at five-under par (139) through 36 holes. McClear drained three birdies and gave up just one bogey on his way to an 18-hole score of 70 on Monday.
McClear is nine strokes back from the lead and just four strokes back from the leading Big Ten golfers at the event, who are tied at nine-under par.
Junior Ronan Kleu secured Iowa’s lowest round of the tournament so far on Monday with a six-under par score of 66. Kleu drained six birdies, including four on the back nine, while dropping zero bogies in round two.
