SARASOTA, Florida – The University of Iowa women’s rowing team qualified three boats for Saturday’s grand final round following Day 1 races at the Sunshine State Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park.
Iowa’s first win of the day came from its varsity four boat, which out-paced Central Florida’s runner-up boat by five seconds. Its first-place finish qualified the varsity four boat for Saturday’s grand final race.
Both Hawkeye varsity eight boats placed third in their respective races, finishing in times of 6:33.02 (1V8) and 6:44.53 (2V8). Each boat’s time ranked in the top six between the two heats to qualify for Saturday’s grand final.
Iowa’s novice crew also recorded a win, its first of the spring season. The novice boat will compete in again as the top seed in Saturday’s final against the third varsity eight field.
