Hawkeyes Scrimmage Gophers in Front of Huge Home Crowd

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa rowing team finished its lone home event of the 2022-23 against Minnesota on Saturday on the Iowa River.

Iowa got its first opportunity of the season to race its fours on Friday afternoon. The Hawkeyes and Golden Gophers raced multiple fours on Friday’s designed 3.5-kilometer course.

The two Big Ten opponents kicked off Saturday’s scrimmages by racing four separate eights squads in 1000-meter pieces.

The Hawkeyes will wrap up the fall season by traveling to Princeton, New Jersey for the Princeton Chase on Nov. 6.

QUOTING HEAD COACH JEFF GARBUTT
“This weekend was an amazing opportunity for both us and Minnesota to come together and continue to progress for competition in the Big Ten. Having a chance to share Friday’s dinner and Dr. Espe-Pfeifer’s presentation about student-athlete mental health was very special. Our team showed great competitive spirit the whole weekend, and we cannot wait to get back to work. Most importantly, we want to thank the fans who showed up. Saturday’s crowd is the largest I have seen here at Iowa, and I am thrilled that everyone got to see us row the boat.”
