IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving swam a total of six individual and team top-10 program performances against Iowa State in Friday’s Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meet at the CRWC Natatorium.
Iowa fell just short of the Cyclones, 144-156.
The Hawkeyes began the night with a first-place finish in the 200-medley relay from the quartet of senior Kennedy Gilbertson, graduate student Sheridan Schreiber, freshman Scarlet Martin, and sophomore Molly Pedersen. The team clocked in at 1:40.27, ranking eighth all-time in program history.
Martin had two individual wins on the night. The Iowa City, Iowa, native took home gold in the 100 fly with a B-cut time of 53.45, posting the fourth fastest performance in program history. Martin notched her second win in the 200 fly (1:59.93) – sixth all-time at Iowa.
Schreiber also put her name in the record books, winning the 100 breast in 1:02.12 – eighth fastest in Iowa performances. Sophomore Alix O’Brien now ranks ninth all-time in the 1000 free with a 10:04.70 second-place finish.
Freshman Sabina Kupcova was another Hawkeye to place first in multiple races. The Levice, Slovakia, native won both the 100 (50.64) and 200 free (1:48.59), coming in seventh all-time in her 200 performance.
Gilbertson came away victorious in the 100 back with a season-best and B-cut 53.93 time.
Diving had another big night for the Hawkeyes. Sophomore Makayla Hughbanks won both the one- and three-meter springboards. Freshman Lainey Woodward came in close second place to Hughbanks in the one-meter dive with a new career best 294.25. Junior Claire Hartley and freshman Alyssa Konz both found new career bests in both dive events.
The Hawkeyes capped off the night with a first-place performance from the quartet of Gilbertson, Martin, Pedersen, and Kupcova in the 400 free relay (3:21.88).
Iowa has a month break before hosting Big Ten opponent Illinois on Jan. 13-14.
