PRETORIA, South Africa – University of Iowa sophomore Annika Herbine has been selected to represent the USA at the 2023 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup (IHWC).
Herbine, a forward from Macungie, Pennsylvania, wrapped up her sophomore season with the Hawkeyes in 2022. She started 19 of 20 games, scoring eight goals and tallying seven assists to lead the team with 23 points. Last summer, Herbine was selected to compete at USA Field Hockey’s 2023 U21 and Development Selection Camp.
The 2023 IHWC will be held at the Heartland Arena in Pretoria, South Africa, from Feb. 5-11. The 12-team women’s tournament includes several countries ranked in the top 20 of the FIH Indoor World Rankings.
No. 12 USA sits in Pool A with No. 2 Netherlands, No. 8 Austria, No. 9 Australia, No. 14 South Africa and New Zealand. Pool B consists of No. 4 Ukraine, No. 5 Czech Republic, No. 9 Namibia, No. 11 Kazakhstan, No. 15 Belgium and No. 16 Canada.
