ANN ARBOR, Mich. – University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving began its first day of individual preliminary and final rounds at the 2023 Big Ten Championships inside the Donald B. Canham Natatorium on Thursday.
Freshman Sabina Kupcova swam her career best 2:02.06 in the morning’s 200 IM preliminary rounds, bumping her name to seventh on the program’s all-time IM swimmers list. Another freshman, Emily Wooden, also found a career best 50 free preliminaries (25.01).
The Hawkeyes’ 400-medley relay squad – senior Kennedy Gilbertson, graduate student Sheridan Schreiber, freshman Scarlet Martin, and Kupcova — finished tenth in 3:40.18.
Competition resumes with the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 3-meter dive preliminary rounds on Friday morning at approximately 9 a.m. (CT).
