Breakthrough for Kresley

Breakthrough for Kresley

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field concluded the indoor season on Friday afternoon, hosting the Iowa Open at the Iowa Indoor Track and Field Facility.

Junior Austin Kresley kicked off the day with a career best in the 60-meter dash preliminary round (6.71), before running it back and posting the second-fastest time in program history (6.64) in the finals.

“We’ve been seeing some good things in practice from Austin (Kresley),” Iowa Director of Track and Field Joey Woody said. “I knew something was coming, but I wasn’t quite expecting. It was great to see his execution in the prelim and set himself up really nicely in the final. It gives him good momentum going into Big Tens next week.”

In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Grant Conway tied his personal best (7.69) that ranks fourth all-time at Iowa.

Six Hawkeyes won their respective events, including Kresley in the 60-meter dash, Conway in the 60-meter hurdles, junior Myreanna Bebe in the 60-meter hurdles (8.15), junior Tionna Tobias with her career best in the high jump (1.70 meters, 5’ 5”), redshirt freshman De’Anna Robinson in the long jump (5.21 meters, 17’ 1.25”), senior Ianna Roach in the shot put (14.78 meters,48’ 6”) and Kayla Hutchins with a season best in the triple jump (12.21 meters, 40’ 0.75”).

Additionally, junior Katie Peterson (60-meter hurdles – 8.70), freshman Natalie Harris (60-meter hurdles – 8.59), freshman Ellie Rickertsen (60-meter hurdles – 8.74), junior Abby Ryon (mile – 5:01.96), senior Maddie Block (mile – 5:04.39) and freshman Madeline Andelbradt (high jump – 1.60 meters, 5’ 3”) posted their collegiate best marks, while juniors Gratt Reed (60-meter hurdles – 7.82), Amber Aesoph (800 meters – 2:10.54) and Quintin Lyons (shot put – 17.21 meters, 56’ 5.75”) saw season bests.

“A lot of our athletes had season bests or PRs today,” Woody said. “It’s the right time of the season. That’s a really good sign for the whole team, because even if they didn’t compete today, they build off the confidence of their teammates performing well.”
