Hawkeyes in Fifth at Wake Forest Invitational

PINEHURST, North Carolina – The University of Iowa men’s golf team is in fifth place after two rounds at the Wake Forest Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2. The Hawkeyes lead No. 31 Duke, No. 33 Wake Forest and No. 43 Clemson heading into the final round at the U.S. Open host site.

Out in front for Iowa is senior Ronan Kleu, who is sixth on the individual leaderboard at one-under par through 36 holes. Kleu closed out the second round bogey-free on the course front nine en route to a Hawkeye-best 18-hole score of 68 (-2) for the day.

Kleu is three strokes back from the lead and is ahead of all three Golfstat top-100 golfers in the field. His seven birdies through two rounds match sophomore Ian Meyer for the most by a Hawkeye on Monday; Iowa leads the field with 28 total birdies.

Senior Mac McClear is next on the leaderboard for the Hawkeyes, tied for 20th at three-over par; Meyer is tied for 25th one stroke back. McClear’s 3.96 (-1) average on par fours ties for the third-best in the field after 36 holes.

Iowa is one stroke behind No. 29 Northwestern and No. 41 East Tennessee State, who are tied for third place. No. 15 Virginia and No. 49 UNCG lead the field at 564 (+4) heading into the third round.
