INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Iowa rowing team competed in the Big Ten Championships on Sunday in Eagle Creek Park. The Hawkeyes finished fifth behind No. 11 Michigan, No. 13 Ohio State, No. 15 Indiana, and No. 16 Rutgers.
The field consisted of Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Wisconsin. The championship session consisted of 1V8, 2V8, 1N8, 2N8, 1V4, 2V4, and 3V4.
Iowa’s earned their best placements in the 1V4, 2V4, and 3V4. All three of the boats finished in fourth place in each of their respective races. Iowa’s Varsity Eight posted fifth and was just five seconds behind Rutgers.
The weather for Sunday’s competition was cloudy and 72 degrees with 5-15 mph head wind out of the east.
Michigan won the Big Ten rowing championship with 174 points, followed by Ohio State 169, Indiana 137, Rutgers 131, Iowa 90, Wisconsin 75, Minnesota 50, and Michigan State with 37.
The Hawkeyes had three All-Big Ten honorees. Emma Dabinett (First Team), Kassandra McWhorter (Second Team), and Sydney Brands was Iowa’s Sportsmanship recipient.
