EVANSTON, Illinois – The University of Iowa baseball team was defeated on Friday evening by Northwestern, 6-4, at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.
“Tough loss today,” said head coach Rick Heller. “Northwestern played really well. Out pitched us and out hit us.”
Ty Langenberg got the start for the Hawkeyes, throwing four innings and allowing three earned runs while striking out three. Jared Simpson threw two innings of relief and was tagged with the loss.
“We had the tying run at the plate just didn’t get the knock,” said Heller. “We scored four times, went out and gave it right back. We didn’t have a shutdown inning from the pitching staff, but it wasn’t because of free bases. They earned it, they hit us, and that is just the way it is. They played really well.”
Raider Tello was 2-for-4 on the day with a solo home run. Brayden Frazier also went 2-for-4 at the plate and added an RBI, while Ben Wilmes was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and Michael Seegers was 2-for-4.
Iowa left eight runners on base to Northwestern’s four and the Hawkeyes hit just 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

- Iowa moves to 38-13 on the season and 14-8 in Big Ten play.
- Jared Simpson moves to 4-2 on the year.
- The Hawkeyes are 0-11 when scoring less than five runs this season.
