IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa field hockey freshman Dionne van Aalsum was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week it was announced Tuesday. This is the second straight week that van Aalsum has been awarded this distinction.
The Castricum, Netherlands native earned the distinction after leading the Hawkeye offense to two 3-0 victories over Fairfield and No. 19 UAlbany this past weekend.Van Aalsum recorded back-to-back multi-goal games for the second week in a row. She gave the Hawkeyes the early lead against UAlbany scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the game.
The honor is van Aalsum’s second this season. She was honored on August 29 after recording back-to-back multi-goal games in the first two games of her collegiate career.
The No. 1 Hawkeyes host Central Michigan on Friday at 3 p.m. (CT) for their home opener at Grant Field.
