IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field senior Mariel Bruxvoort was named the Big Ten Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. It is the second time this season that Bruxvoort has earned the honor.
The senior from Grand Rapids, Michigan, contributed to a pair of Iowa victories at the Jim Click Shootout on April 6. Bruxvoort won the women’s 400-meter hurdles in 57.68 before helping Iowa’s 4×400 relay squad break the program record. Bruxvoort was the lead leg of the record-setting relay that clocked a 3:37.92.
Bruxvoort leads the Big Ten in the 400-meter hurdles and is part of the second-best 4×400 relay team in the conference.
The Hawkeyes return to the track on Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational before beginning competition at the Beach Invite, Jim Duncan Invite and Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Friday, April 12.
