OMAHA, Neb. – University of Iowa women’s wrestlers Macey Kilty and Kylie Welker both claimed their spot on the 2024 Senior World Championship Team on Sunday afternoon at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Neb.
At 65kg, Kilty had a bye to the best-of-three finals where she faced off with Aine Drury. The Stratford, Wisc., native made quick work in the first match with a tech. fall, 10-0, in the first period. Kilty went on to claim the 65kg title with a tech. fall, 12-1, in the second match.
At 72kg, Welker faced off with a familiar foe in Yelena Makoyed in the finals. She took match one of the best-of-three final as she pinned Makoyed in 5:03. Welker went the distance in match two securing the, 5-2, decision to punch her ticket to the Senior World Championships.
Kilty and Welker are both set to represent the United States at the U23 World Championships as well as the Senior World Championships in October in Tirana, Albania.
