IOWA CITY, Iowa — The 10th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team fell to No. 5 Maryland, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon at Grant Field.
The teams played a scoreless first quarter. Maryland was first on the board finding the back of the net in the second quarter at 16:36.
Maryland went on to score four more goals in the second half to pull away in the battle of ranked teams. The Terrapins scored at 34:29 and 40:33 in the third quarter, and at 54:30 and 58:22 in the fourth.
The Terrapins outshot the Hawkeyes 10-to-3, and had seven penalty corners to the Hawkeyes two. Mia Magnotta had three saves for Iowa.
