MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team continued to deliver strong performances on day three of the ITA Central Regionals at the Leftwich Tennis Center.
The doubles competition saw Marisa Schmidt and Daianne Hayashida take control, defeating Lindenwood’s Daniela Rosenberger and Michelle Trochez in commanding fashion, 8-0, to move into the Round of 16. Meanwhile, Nikita Vishwase and Pia Kranholdt fought but fell short in their match against Arkansas’s Katarina Pavlechova and Lilitha Sithenkosi Ndungane, 8-3, concluding their doubles run.
In singles play, Hayashida kicked off the Round of 32 with a dominant win over Iowa State’s Maria de la Paz Alberto, 6-2, 6-0. Tereza Dejnozkova followed with a solid victory, taking down Leonie Moeller of Memphis, 6-2, 6-4. Schmidt battled through a tough three-setter to come back against Erin McKenzie from Tulsa, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. All three Hawkeyes advanced to the Round of 16. Barbora Pokorna battled but fell to Anna Supapitch Kuearum of Iowa State, 6-0, 6-4.
The Round of 16 brought some mixed results. Hayashida fought hard in a three-set thriller but fell to Ange Oby Kajuru of Oklahoma, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Dejnozkova continued her stellar play, defeating Oklahoma’s Chloe Noel in a gritty match, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, securing her place in the quarterfinals. Schmidt came up short in a close match against Oklahoma’s Stalker, 7-5, 3-6, 3-6.
In the consolation bracket, Kranholdt earned a solid victory, defeating Roisin Gilheany of Oklahoma, 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.
The Hawkeyes will continue singles and doubles competition tomorrow, beginning at 9 a.m. (CT).
