No. 9 Hawkeyes Blank No. 15 Rutgers, 2-0

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The ninth-ranked University of Iowa soccer team defeated No. 15 Rutgers, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Miller Family Soccer Complex. The Hawkeyes move to 11-1-3 on the season and 6-1-1 in Big Ten Conference play.

The Hawkeyes took advantage of six corner kick opportunities in the first half. On the fifth, sophomore Sofia Bush fired her shot into the net in the 34th minute for her fourth goal of the season and third of Big Ten play. The goal was assisted by senior Kenzie Roling and freshman Berit Parten. The assist is Roling’s fourth of the season and Parten’s first of the season.

The Hawkeyes outshot the Scarlet Knights 9-4 in the first 45 minutes. Iowa fired four shots on goal, while Rutgers put two on goal. Graduate student Macy Enneking had two crucial saves early in the game to keep the score tied.

Senior Meike Ingles stretched Iowa’s lead to 2-0, scoring a goal in the 49th minute. The goal is Ingles’s fifth of the season — the second most on the team. The goal was assisted by senior Elle Otto, her third assist of the season.

The Hawkeye defense held strong to post its eighth shutout of the season. Enneking had two saves in the half to finish the game with four. Iowa finished with a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

– Rutgers came into the match with a 10-game unbeaten streak.
– Enneking is one victory away from tying former Hawkeye Claire Graves (2016-19) for most career victories as a goalkeeper.
– Of Iowa’s 14 shots, seven were on goal. Maya Hansen led Iowa with five shots with two being on goal.
– The shutout is Iowa’s eighth shutout of the season. It also marks Enneking’s 7.5 shutout this year, which are tied for the third-most in a single season in program history.
– The win marks the first time in program history that Iowa won at Rutgers.
– Enneking now has 203 saves in her career, ranking fifth in the record books.
2 for the Money: Iowa’s record is 53-2-3 in its last 58 games when scoring two goals or more, which dates back to Oct., 2017. The Hawkeyes are 10-0 this year in multi-goal games.
90 Tracker: Sofia Bush, Eva Pattison, Miah Schueller, Millie Greer and Maggie Johnston were the five Hawkeye position players to register 90 minutes on Sunday. Seventeen Hawkeyes registered minutes in the victory.
