Hawkeyes Host No. 24 Washington, Oregon

The No. 9 University of Iowa soccer team is set to host No. 24 Washington on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. (CT) at Iowa Soccer Complex. Iowa then hosts Oregon in their regular-season home finale. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Iowa Soccer Complex.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
– The Huskies sit at 8-4-2 on the season including a 5-3-0 record in the Big Ten conference. Washington is 2-3-0 in away games.
– Washington is in a tie for seventh place in the Big Ten regular season standings. They are tied with Michigan State.
– Washington is led by senior forward Ioanna Papatheodorou. Papatheodorou leads the team with seven goals and 16 points. Papatheodorou has just 19 shots on the season, scoring on seven of them (.368). The senior has four game winning goals on the year which ranks tied for fourth in the conference.
– Junior goalkeeper Mia Hamant has played in 11 of the Huskies 14 games. Hamant has allowed six goals on the season for a goals allowed average of .57. Hamant has 40 saves on the season and a save percentage of .870. Hamant’s save percentage leads the conference (minimum 10 games played).
– Hamant has posted five shutouts on the season and a record of 7-3-1 when playing.
– Washington has outscored opponents 19-8 on the season. They are holding their opponents to nine shots per game.
– Iowa will be the fourth ranked opponent Washington faces this season. The Huskies are 1-2-0 against ranked opponents on the season. Washington defeated No. 5 Michigan State, 2-1, last week.

SCOUTING THE DUCKS
– Oregon has a balanced offensive attack with no player have more than three goals or three assists. Haley McWhirter, Cameron Bourn, and Taylor Bryan all have three goals for the Ducks.
– Oregon is 5-8-2 on the season and 1-5-0 on the road. The Ducks are 1-5-2 in Big Ten conference play. Their lone Big Ten win came over Maryland in a 2-0 victory.
– Iowa will be the fourth ranked opponent that Oregon has faced this season. Oregon is 0-2-1 against ranked opponents this year. The Ducks tied with No. 5 Michigan State, 0-0.
– Goalkeeper Maddy Goldberg has played in 14 of 15 games for the Ducks. Goldberg has allowed 22 goals for a goals allowed average of 1.61. Goldberg has 62 saves for a save percentage of .738. Goldberg has posted four shutouts and is 5-8-1 on the season.
– Oregon is averaging 11.9 shots per game for 1.00 goal per game. Of their 178 shots on the season 74 have been on goal (.416).

– Bush, Enneking and Greer were named Big Ten Players to Watch. The Hawkeyes were ranked eighth in the Big Ten Preseason Poll. Enneking is a United Soccer Coaches national preseason honoree and was named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List
Millie Greer (#39) and midfielder Sofia Bush (#87) were ranked top-100 freshmen at the end of the season by Top Drawer Soccer.
Macy Enneking, Maggie Johnston and graduate-student Rielee Fetty were voted team captains.
Macy Enneking, Reilee Fetty, and Sofia Bush were named mid season top 100 players by Top Drawer Soccer. Bush was No. 17, Enneking No. 59, and Fetty No. 68.

LAST WEEK
The Hawkeyes opened last week hosting Wisconsin at home where they dropped their first Big Ten game of the season, losing to Wisconsin 2-1. Iowa got on the board first with a penalty kick from graduate student Maggie Johnston, her second goal of the season. Wisconsin then converted on a penalty kick of their own to tie the game at 1-1 in the 73rd minute. Wisconsin then took the lead in the 76th minute that would go on to be the game winning goal. Iowa then hit the road and traveled to Piscataway, N.J. to take on No. 15 Rutgers who was yet to lose a Big Ten game. Iowa’s Sophia Bush opened the scoring with a goal in the 34th minute to give Iowa a 1-0 advantage. Senior Meike Ingles then added to the Hawkeye lead in the 49th minute to push the Hawkeye lead to 2-0. The goal was assisted by Elle Otto.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
– Iowa held a six-game shutout earlier this season, which was a program record for consecutive shutouts.
– Iowa has allowed just eight goals so far this season. The current record for least goals allowed in a season is 16 in 2020.
– Iowa has posted 8 shutouts this season. The program record for most shutouts in a season is 12 set by Macy Enneking in 2023.

A KEEPER!
Macy Enneking has started all five years at Iowa, anchoring the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances and a pair of conference tournament championships.
– Enneking is the first Hawkeye named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List and the first Iowa player featured on the United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch List.
-Enneking has 29.5 career shutouts, passing former Hawkeye Hannah Clark (2012-15), to become the school’s all-time leader in shutouts.
– Enneking needs one victories to tie the all-time school’s record for career victories, currently being held by former Hawkeye Claire Graves (2016-19).
– Enneking became the first Hawkeye to win Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week three times in a career and the first Hawkeye to win the award in back-to-back weeks.
– Enneking has 7.5 shutouts on the season which ranks tied for 4th in the single season record books. Enneking currently holds the number one spot on the record book for most shutouts in a season when she had 12 last season. Enneking needs 1.5 shutouts to move to 3rd in the single season records and 2.5 to move to second.
– Enneking’s 11 victories this season also ranks tied for fourth in the single season record book. Hannah Clark also leads that with 15 victories in 2013.

A SPECIAL SEASON
– The Hawkeyes are in third place the Big Ten. The lowest Big Ten regular season finish in program history came in 2019 when the Hawkeyes finished third. The Hawkeyes have never won the Big Ten regular season. The last time the Hawkeyes finished top four in the conference was 2021.
– The Hawkeyes No. 9 ranking last week was the highest ranking in program history.
– At 11-1-3 the Hawkeyes are off to the best start in program history. The Hawkeyes record for most victories in a season came in 2013 and 2019 when Iowa won 15 games.

SHARING THE WEALTH
– 11 Hawkeyes have scored goals in the 2024 season. Berit Parten (6), Maya Hansen (5), Meike Ingles (5), Sofia Bush (4), Berkely Binggeli (2), Maggie Johnston (2), Kenzie Roling, Lauren Geczik, Elle Otto, Rielee Fetty, and Millie Greer all have one goal this season. Of the 29 goals scored this season, 15 have come from newcomers.
– 11 different Hawkeyes have assists this season. Meike Ingles leads the team with four. Sofia Bush, Kenzie Roling, and Lauren Geczik all have three. Elle Otto and Rielee Fetty each have two while five other Hawkeyes have one.

FRESHMAN SENSATION
Berit Parten was named a mid season top 100 freshman by Top Drawer Soccer. Parten was ranked No. 26 on the list.
– Parten leads Iowa in goals (6), shots (39), and shots on goal (20).
– Parten was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week earlier this season. Parten was the 12th Hawkeye to be named Freshman of the Week and the first Hawkeye to win the award since Kenzie Roling in 2021.

2 FOR THE MONEY
Iowa’s record is 53-2-3 in its last 58 games when scoring two goals or more, which dates back to October of 2017. The Hawkeyes are 10-0 this year in multi-goal games.

90 TRACKER
Miah Schueller, Millie Greer, and Maggie Johnston played all 90 minutes vs. Wisconsin. Sofia Bush, Eva Pattison, Greer, Johnston all registered 90 minutes against No. 15 Rutgers.

UP NEXT
