EAST LANSING, Mich. – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team continued its fall season at the Spartan Invitational, taking on competition from Michigan State, DePaul and Eastern Michigan.
In doubles, Barbora Pokorna and Nikita Vishwase teamed up to claim a victory, defeating Eastern Michigan’s Regina Mendez and Kseniia Saenko, 6-3.
In singles play, Ellie Blackford of Michigan State defeated Pokorna 6-4, 6-2. Amara Brahmbhatt, also from Michigan State, won against Vishwase in straight sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Helin Alvarez from DePaul edged out Jessica Matthews after a three-set battle, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The Hawkeyes will continue singles and doubles play tomorrow, beginning at 9 a.m. (CT).
