EAST LANSING, Mich. – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team continued its competition at the Spartan Invitational, taking on opponents from Northwestern, Michigan State, DePaul, and Butler.
In doubles, Barbora Pokorna and Nikita Vishwase secured a win against Northwestern’s Katya Shepherd Johnson and Jennifer Riester in a close match, 7-5. Later, they faced Michigan State’s Liisa Vehvilainen and Ellie Blackford, who edged them out with a 7-5 score.
In singles play, Jessica Matthews earned a victory for Iowa, defeating Katie Beavin of Butler in a three-set match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0. Pokorna also notched a win, overcoming Daniella Shved of Eastern Michigan 7-6 (3), 6-4. Vishwase battled against Eleanor Nobbs from DePaul but fell in a tight three-setter, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6.
The Hawkeyes will resume singles and doubles play tomorrow.
