The University of Iowa women’s soccer team travels to Los Angeles, California, to take on sixth-seeded Georgetown in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. The match is set to kick off on Friday, Nov. 22 at 6:00 p.m. (CT).

SCOUTING THE HOYAS
– Georgetown comes into the match with a 13-3-4 overall record after posting a 9-1-2 record in the Big East Conference. The Hoyas defeated Fairfield, 3-0, to move on to the Round of 32.
– The Hoyas earned an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown fell to UCONN, 0-2, in the semifinals of the Big East Tournament.
– Georgetown is led by Big East Offensive Player of the Year, Maja Lardner. Lardner has 11 goals on the season to go along with seven assists for a total of 29 points. The senior has fired 80 shots and put 37 of them on goal (.463). Lardner’s six game winning goals on the season rank tied for sixth in the country.
– Anchoring down the defensive unit is Cara Martin, the Big East Goalkeeper of the Year. Martin has allowed just three goals on the season for a goals allowed average of 0.27, which ranks first in the country. Martin has 20 saves on the season for a save percentage of .870, which is tied for sixth in the country. The junior has posted a record of 11-1-2 on the season.
– Graduate goalkeeper Anna Karpenko has appeared in 18 of 20 games for the Hoyas, logging 766 minutes on the season. Martin has logged 990 minutes on the season for Georgetown.
– The Georgetown coaching staff was named the Big East Coaching Staff of the Year. They also won the award in 2022.
– Four Georgetown players were named to the Big East First Team while one Hoya earned a spot on the Big East Third Team.
– Georgetown’s shutout percentage of .700 (14) ranks third in the country. They also rank second in the country with an average of 8.3 corner kicks per game.
SERIES HISTORY – GEORGETOWN
This marks the first meeting between the Hawkeyes and the Hoyas. Georgetown and Iowa have one similar opponent this season and that is Penn State. The Hawkeyes defeated No. 15 Penn State at home, 2-1, while the Hoyas forced a scoreless tie against the No. 8 Nittany Lions at home.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
– Bush, Enneking and Greer were named Big Ten Players to Watch. The Hawkeyes were ranked eighth in the Big Ten Preseason Poll. Enneking is a United Soccer Coaches national preseason honoree and was named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List. The first Hawkeye to be named to the Watch list.
– Macy Enneking, Maggie Johnston and graduate-student Rielee Fetty were voted team captains.
– Macy Enneking, Reilee Fetty, and Sofia Bush were named mid-season top 100 players by Top Drawer Soccer. Bush was No. 17, Enneking No. 59, and Fetty No. 68.
– Four Hawkeyes earned All-Big Ten honors. Maggie Johnston and Millie Greer were both named second-team All-Big Ten. Sofia Bush was named third-team All-Big Ten and Berit Parten was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team.
– 10 Big Ten teams were selected to be a part of the NCAA Tournament field, a conference record. Every Big Ten team that qualified for the Big Ten Tournament was selected for the NCAA tournament. Of the 10 Big Ten Teams selected, nine earned top six seeds in their respective quadrant.
– Maggie Johnston, Elle Otto, and Kenzie Roling were named to the 2024 CSC Academic All-District Team.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hawkeyes hosted Missouri State in the programs second ever time hosting for the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 15th. Iowa scored first with a goal from senior Meike Ingles assisted by fellow senior Kenzie Roling to make the game 1-0. The Hawkeyes then added to their lead quickly in the second half in the 48th minute with a goal from graduate student Maggie Johnston assisted by Lauren Geczik. Missouri State would go on to score in the 78th minute to cut the Hawkeye lead to 2-1. Iowa would go on to defeat Missouri State, 2-1, earning their second straight bid to the Round of 32. The Hawkeyes outshot the Bears 28 to seven had 13 corner kicks to their one.
DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
– Iowa held a six-game shutout earlier this season, which was a program record for consecutive shutouts.
– The Hawkeyes have shutout four ranked opponents this season. No. 12 Texas, No. 18 Wake Forest, No. 15 Rutgers, and No. 24 Washington.
– Iowa has allowed just 11 goals so far this season in 19 games. The current record for least goals allowed in a season is 16 in 2020. The Hawkeyes goals against averages sits at .520 which ranks seventh in the country and fourth amongst power four teams.
– Iowa has posted 11 shutouts this season. The program record for most shutouts in a season is 12 set by Macy Enneking in 2023. The Hawkeyes shutout percentage of .544 ranks ninth in the country and fifth amongst power four teams.
A KEEPER!
Macy Enneking has started all five years at Iowa, anchoring the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances and a pair of conference tournament championships.
– Enneking is the first Hawkeye named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List and the first Iowa player featured on the United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch List.
– Enneking has 32.5 career shutouts, passing former Hawkeye Hannah Clark (2012-15), to become the school’s all-time leader in shutouts.
– Enneking is the all-time leader in career victories as a goalkeeper in school history. Enneking has 39.5 career victories.
– Enneking became the first Hawkeye to win Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week three times in a career and the first Hawkeye to win the award in back-to-back weeks.
– Enneking has 10.5 shutouts on the season which ranks third in the single season record books. Enneking currently holds the number one spot on the record book for most shutouts in a season when she had 12 last season.
– Enneking’s 13.5 victories this season ranks third in the single season record book. Hannah Clark currently leads with 15 victories in 2013.
– Enneking was named to the All-Tournament team after her six-save shutout performance against the Huskies in the Big Ten Tournament.
– The Hilliard, Ohio native has 223 career saves, which ranks fifth all time in school history.
A SPECIAL SEASON
– The Hawkeyes third place finish in the Big Ten regular season tied the best finish in program history. Iowa also finished third in the conference in 2019.
– The Hawkeyes No. 9 ranking earlier this season was the highest ranking in program history.
– At 14-2-3 the Hawkeyes are one win away from tying the program record for most victories in a season. Iowa won 15 games in 2013 and 2019.
– The Hawkeyes currently have four wins against ranked opponents this season which is a program record. Prior to Coach DiIanni’s arrival in 2014 Iowa had a total of 9 wins against ranked opponents. In DiIanni’s tenure they have 13.
– Iowa’s eight wins in conference is a program record for most wins in the Big Ten regular season.

HAWKEYES IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
– The Hawkeyes have three NCAA tournament victories in school history with the most recent coming last week when they defeated Missouri State, 2-1, at home. Iowa has never made it past the Round of 32.
– This marks Iowa’s fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history. Iowa posts an all-time record of 3-4 in NCAA Tournament games. All three NCAA Tournament victories have come under head coach Dave DiIanni.
– The No. 3 seed for Iowa is the highest seed in program history.
– The Hawkeyes hosted back-to-back NCAA Tournament games for the first time in program history. Last year’s match against Bucknell marked the first time Iowa hosted a NCAA Tournament game.
– Iowa has played 10 games this season against teams that were selected for the NCAA Tournament. Iowa’s record in those games is 4-2-4. Of the 10 games five were against teams who were seeded five or higher. Some notable games include a 2-0 victory over two seeded Wake Forest, 2-1 victory over four seeded Penn State, and ties with three seeded Ohio State and four seeded Texas. The Hawkeyes were able to force both ties on the road.
– Of the 32 teams left in the tournament Iowa has played seven of them. The Hawkeyes are 3-2-3 in those games.

Iowa’s record is 55-2-3 in its last 60 games when scoring two goals or more, which dates back to October of 2017. The Hawkeyes are 12-0 this year in multi-goal games.

Millie Greer and Miah Schueller were the two Hawkeye position players to register 90 minutes against Missouri State. 18 Hawkeyes registered minutes in the 2-1 victory over the Bears.
UP NEXT
The winner of the matchup between Iowa and Georgetown will face the winner of 2-seed UCLA and 7-seed Virginia Tech. The match would take place Nov. 24th at 8:00 p.m. (CT) in Los Angeles at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.
