IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s gymnastics fifth-year Adeline Kenlin and junior Karina Muñoz were named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch for the second straight year. The GymHawks have been picked to finish 10th in the Big Ten Preseason Poll, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Kenlin competed in three meets in 2024 before suffering a season-ending injury. Prior to injury she set a career-high in the all-around (39.575) and matched her career-high on floor (9.925). The Iowa City native, is a two-time All-American, 2022 NCAA runner-up on beam, 2023 Big Ten runner-up on beam, and holds the school record on beam with a score of 9.975.
Muñoz is coming off a sophomore season where she competed in all 12 meets, including six all-arounds. She captured 14 event titles and 30 top-three finishes. The East Brunswick, N.J., native earned first-team all-Big Ten honors and was an NCAA regional qualifier in the all-around. Muñoz finished the season ranked sixth in the Big Ten and 28th nationally for all-around. As a sophomore, she scored a 9.950 on bars which is tied for second in program history.
Defending Big Ten champion Michigan State was voted the preseason favorite, followed by UCLA, Michigan and Ohio State.
The GymHawks open the 2025 season on Jan. 10 at Iowa State in a tri-meet with the Cyclones and Brown. The Hawkeyes host their home opener on Jan. 26 against Minnesota at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
