IOWA CITY, Iowa – The nationally-ranked University of Iowa women’s basketball team fell to Indiana, 74-67, on Sunday afternoon inside Carver Hawkeye Arena.
Junior Taylor McCabe went 4-of-5 from behind the arc, leading the Hawkeyes with 15 points, while senior Addi O’Grady added 11 points. The Hawkeyes also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Hoosiers, 38-31.
Indiana took control of the game from the start, going on a 6-0 run. McCabe downed her first three-pointer to give the Hawkeyes their opening points, and junior Hannah Stuelke followed with a layup to bring the score back to within one. The Hoosiers maintained a single-digit lead through the remainder of the first quarter, closing it out with an 18-13 lead.
O’Grady made the first two baskets for the Hawkeyes at the start of the second quarter, bringing the game within one possession. Indiana then went on a 14-2 run to take a double-digit lead over Iowa, forcing an Iowa timeout. Out of the timeout, McCabe hit another three-pointer followed by a layup from O’Grady. The Hawkeyes managed to pull together a 6-0 run to close out the first half, with the Hoosiers leading 36-30.
To start the third quarter, the Hawkeyes narrowed the gap to just two points making it 36-38. However, the Hoosiers responded with a strong run, hitting back-to-back three-pointers to regain their double-digit lead. Despite this, Iowa managed to stay within striking distance by sinking seven free throws down the stretch, ending the quarter at 59-49.
In the final quarter, the Hawkeyes outscored the Hoosiers, 18-15. A crucial steal and a late three-pointer from McCabe brought the Hawkeyes within four points. Despite their strong effort, Indiana managed to hold on to their lead, securing the win.
