ATLANTA – University of Iowa senior guard Sydney Affolter has been named to the 22nd class of the “So You Want To Be A Coach” program the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced on Wednesday. Each student-athlete will participate in the two-day workshop on April 3 and 4 during the WBCA Convention in Tampa.
The “So” program increases the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women’s basketball and increases the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching. Participants are chosen based on their academic achievements, contributions to women's basketball both on and off the court, a professional résumé, and a written recommendation from their head coach.
Affolter has been a key contributor for the Hawkeyes starting in 15 games this season. The Chicago, Illinois, native scored a season-high 16 points and tied her career high with three three-pointers made against in-state rival Iowa State.
Affolter earned spots on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and the Albany 2 All-Regional Team last season. During the team’s Big Ten Tournament championship run, she delivered three double-digit scoring performances and went on to average 34 minutes per game throughout the NCAA Tournament.
