Hawkeyes Thump Washington in Seattle

The University of Iowa women’s basketball team defeated Washington, 85-61, on Wednesday night inside the Alaska Airlines Arena. The Hawkeyes set a new program for field goal percentage, going 33-of-46 from the floor (71 percent).

SEATTLE, Washington – The University of Iowa women’s basketball team defeated Washington, 85-61, on Wednesday night inside the Alaska Airlines Arena. The Hawkeyes set a new program for field goal percentage, going 33-of-46 from the floor (71 percent). 

The Hawkeyes were led by senior Lucy Olsen who was perfect from the field, contributing 20 points with four three pointers and six assists. Senior Addison O'Grady added 17 points grabbing four rebounds, and senior Kylie Feuerbach chipped in with 12 points. Junior Taylor McCabe added 11 points, including three three-pointers.

The Hawkeyes sparked a 15-1 run early in the game, starting with back-to-back layups from O’Grady and a three-pointer by McCabe. O’Grady led the way with a 12-point quarter, helping Iowa achieve their first double-digit lead. The quarter concluded with consecutive layups by freshman Teagan Mallegni and O’Grady in the final 40 seconds to give Iowa a 26-14 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Iowa continued to build on their momentum coming into the second with three straight three-pointers, part of six total three-pointers in the quarter, with McCabe and Olsen each hitting two shots from beyond the arc. The Hawkeyes' defense allowed only 12 points from Washington, and Iowa dominated on offense, going on a 10-0 scoring run in the midst of the quarter to extend their lead to 50-26 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Iowa shot 71.4% from the field and dominated the paint with 16 points. Olsen led the quarter with seven points, going 3-3 from the field and sinking her fourth three-pointer of the game. Iowa ended the quarter up 32 points, leading 71-39.

Despite a late surge from Washington in the fourth quarter, the Hawkeyes were able to keep their lead above 20 through the quarter. The Hawkeyes closed out the game with 85-61 victory.
