Muñoz Claims All-Around Title at Maryland

The University of Iowa gymnastics team fell to Maryland, 195.750-194.725, on Friday night inside the XFINITY Center.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Iowa gymnastics team fell to Maryland, 195.750-194.725, on Friday night inside the XFINITY Center.

The GymHawks secured five top-three finishes on the night, highlighted by junior Karina Muñoz winning the all-around title with a 39.325. Freshman Aurélie Tran finished third in the all-around with a 38.100 and took home the event title on bars. Muñoz and fifth-year senior Adeline Kenlin season-highs, 9.875, on beam to tie for second place on the event.

BARS
Iowa started the meet on bars, posting a team score of 48.775. Tran led the lineup with a strong 9.850, securing first place on the event. Muñoz followed closely behind with a 9.800, tying for second-place. Senior Ilka Juk added a 9.725, while Kaia VanneyGianna Masella, and Kenlin each contributed 9.700s to round out the rotation.

VAULT
The GymHawks delivered a solid vault rotation, earning a team score of 48.900. Muñoz led the rotation with a 9.875, finishing second overall on the event. Tran added a 9.800, while sophomore Alyse Karenbauer posted a season-best 9.775. Sophomore Eva Volpe and junior Avery Chambers scored back-to-back 9.725s. Volpe made her return to the lineup for the first time since late January. Iowa trailed Maryland at the halfway mark, 97.825-97.675.

FLOOR
The Hawkeyes posted a 48.400 on floor. Junior Hanna Castillo led the way with a 9.800 tying for fourth-place. Tran and Muñoz each scored 9.775s. Emily Erb added a 9.725, and Haley Tyson posted a 9.325.

BEAM
Iowa closed out the meet on beam with a 48.600. Muñoz and Kenlin delivered matching 9.875s, matching their season-highs and earning second-place finishes on the event. Juk added a 9.800, while freshman Cassie Lee scored a 9.500. Tyson posted a 9.550, and Tran finished her all-around run with an 8.675.

UP NEXT

The Hawkeyes return home to Coralville, Iowa, to host Michigan State, Penn State, and Washington in the Big Four Meet on Sunday, March 2. Action at Xtream Arena will begin at 6:00 p.m. CT and will be streamed on Big Ten Network.
