Hawkeyes Complete Day 1 at Chevron Collegiate

HUMBLE, Texas – Three University of Iowa women’s golfers finished in the red during the second round of the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston. 

After opening the tournament with an opening round 309, the Hawkeyes had three players – Ximena Benites, Paula Miranda and Riley Lewis – finish under par during the second 18 holes.  Iowa trimmed 19 shots off its score from Round 1 to Round 2, carding a 290. 

Benites had two birdies and an eagle on the par five eighth hole en route to a two-under par 70.  She is one of three players in the field to card an eagle, as she is currently tied for 62nd with a 148 (78-70).  It was Benites’ third round at or below par this season. 

Miranda and Lewis both had four birdies in Round 2 en route to one-under par 71s.  Miranda is tied with Benites in a tie for 62nd with a 148 (77-71), while Lewis is tied for 69th with a 149 (78-71).   

It was Miranda’s team-leading fifth round at or below par this season and 25th of her career, while it was Lewis’ first round in the red on the year. 

The Hawkeyes are currently in 16th place with a 599 (309-290).  No. 17 Texas A&M is atop the team standings with a 553, five shots ahead of No. 16 TCU.   Individually Texas A&M’s Vanessa Borovilos leads the field, sitting at 10-under par.
