The University of Iowa men's golf team will compete in the Colleton River Collegiate on March 2-3 in Bluffton, South Carolina. The tournament is hosted by Michigan State and will take place on the Dye Course at Colleton River Club.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
The 54-hole tournament begins Sunday and concludes Monday, with all rounds played over two days. Rounds one and two will take place Sunday with a shotgun start and continuous play beginning at 7:00 a.m. (CT). Round three will start Monday at 7:00 a.m. (CT) with tee times from holes one and ten in an 18-hole match play format.

THE FIELD
Iowa will face off against six Big Ten opponents in a field of 16 that includes Michigan State, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, Wake Forest, East Tennessee State, Tennessee Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Georgia Southern, Iowa State, Kansas State, Memphis, and Missouri.
- Wake Forest and ETSU will make their debut appearances at the 2025 Colleton River Collegiate. Georgia Southern, the three-time defending champion, will return to defend its 2024 team title.
HAWKEYES AT THE COLLETON RIVER COLLEGIATE
This marks Iowa’s fourth appearance in the Colleton River Collegiate. The Hawkeyes last competed in the tournament in 2021, when they claimed the team title. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event was held at Sea Island, Georgia, that year. Iowa’s Mac McClear secured individual medalist honors in the victory with a 10-under par 206. Alex Schaake took home runner-up honors with a 7-under par 209.
- In 2020, Iowa secured a sixth-place finish, led by Alex Schaake’s tie for seventh at three-under (213). Gonzalo Leal Montero (T-21) and Benton Weinberg (T-27) also posted top-30 finishes.
- A year earlier, in 2019, the Hawkeyes placed fourth, with Schaake finishing as the runner-up at seven-under (209). Benton Weinberg (T-12) and Matthew Walker (T-15) also earned top-20 finishes.
THE EVENT
Hosted by Michigan State University, the 13th annual CR Collegiate welcomes one of the most competitive fields in college golf. The CR Collegiate is one of the few Collegiate Charity Golf Tournaments in the country and relies on donations and support from donors and sponsors to help provide food, shelter, and medical care to those in need in the low country. Proceeds are distributed through the Colleton River Collegiate Fund at the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, a 501(c)(3) organization.
THE COURSE
The Colleton River Collegiate will be played at the Pete Dye Course at Colleton River (par-72, 7,180 yards). The links-type course has unobstructed views of Port Royal Sound and the Atlantic Ocean from 11 of its 18 holes.
- The only course of it's kind in the southeast, the Dye Course plays host to major tournaments like the South Carolina Amateur, US Amateur Qualifier, US Open Qualifier and the 2015 US Junior Amateur Tournament.
THE RETURNERS
- Since transferring from Cornell in 2023, John Lundmark has started in 12 meets for the Hawkeyes. He posted a season-low 69 in the final round of the Fallen Oak Intercollegiate and matched that score in the final round of the Puredo Rico Classic, where he finished tied for 27th after shooting four under par for the tournament.
- Gage Messingham opened the season with a ninth-place finish at the Gopher Invite and followed with a top-25 finish at the Purdue Invite. He shot a season-low 69 in the first round of the Notre Dame Invite.
- Max Toja recorded his best finish of the season at the Gopher Invite, placing 17th. He followed with a 24th-place finish at the Purdue Invite where he shot a season-low 69 in the third round.
SIGNING DAY RECAP
Bennett Warren, from Olathe, Kansas, has signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Iowa men’s golf program, it was announced by head coach Tyler Stith.

FALL SEASON WRAP-UP
Iowa had a strong fall season, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the Gopher Invitational, led by Gage Messingham, who placed ninth individually. The Hawkeyes also secured a third-place finish out of 15 teams at the Purdue Invite, shooting 6-over par. At the Fighting Irish Classic, Iowa placed eighth, defeating No. 20 Duke, RV Washington, and RV Michigan State. The Hawkeyes concluded their fall season at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational, where they took down RV UNLV.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Hawkeyes will travel to Charleston, S.C. where they will compete in The Hootie hosted by the College of Charleston. The 54-hole tournament will tee of on March 23rd and conclude on the 25th.
