IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s soccer associate head coach Katelyn Longino has accepted the head coach position at Grand Valley State.
Longino was brought on staff in 2018 following coaching stints at Valparaiso, Xavier and Columbus State. She played as a freshman at Columbus State before transitioning into coaching. Longino served as associate head coach for seven years in her campaign as a Hawkeye.
In her time at Iowa, Longino helped guide the program to 75 victories, two Big Ten Tournament titles, four NCAA Tournament appearances and a spot in the Round of 16.
In 2024, the Hawkeyes finished 15-3-4 overall and 8-2-1 in Big Ten Conference play. The Hawkeyes locked up a three seed in the Big Ten Tournament before being tabbed as a three seed in the NCAA Tournament, the highest seed in program history. Iowa hosted its second NCAA Tournament game in program history where they defeated Missouri State, 2-1, to advance to the Round of 32. Iowa then then defeated Georgetown, 1-0, to advance to its first Round of 16 appearance in program history before falling to Virginia Tech, 1-0.
Longino heads to NCAA Division II Grand Valley State following the departure of Katie Hultin, who accepted the head coaching position at Illinois. Grand Valley State is coming off a 15-1-8 season where it advanced to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.
Iowa head coach Dave DiIanni spent 11 years as the head coach at Grand Valley State prior to being hired at Iowa in 2014 and was recently inducted into the Grand Valley State Hall of Fame. He guided the Lakers to three NCAA Division II National Championships and nine-consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference titles. DiIanni’s .895-win percentage was tops in NCAA Division II history.
