CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team opened play at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Golf Club on Sunday. The Hawkeyes finished the first round tied for 14th place.

Sophomore Max Tjoa led the Hawkeyes with a strong start, firing a two-under par 70 to sit in a tie for 16th place. Tjoa carded four birdies, all coming from the back nine, to pace Iowa’s lineup.

HEAR FROM HEAD COACH TYLER STITH
“We began on the back nine, probably the tougher of the two sides. We made the turn in decent shape but unfortunately didn’t take advantage of the front. We left a lot of shots out there, especially on the par 5s. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for wind so the course will play completely different. The conditions should provide an opportunity to make up shots.”
