Hawkeyes Head To Briars Creek Invitational

The University of Iowa women’s golf team heads to Johns Island, South Carolina, to compete at the Briars Creek Invitational on March 10-11. Tee times begin at 8:30 a.m. (CT) on Monday.

THIS WEEK 
The University of Iowa women’s golf team heads to Johns Island, South Carolina, to compete at the Briars Creek Invitational on March 10-11. The 36-hole tournament, hosted by the College of Charleston, will be played at the Golf Club at Briars Creek (Par 72, 6,152 yards) with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CT) on Monday.

THE LINEUP
Iowa’s lineup includes senior Paula Miranda, junior Riley Lewis, sophomore Ximena Benites, sophomore Maura Peters and freshman Lily Huether.

THE FIELD 
The 17-team field includes Campbell (49), College of Charleston (44), East Carolina (93), Florida State (6), Furman (74), Iowa (122), Kent State (64), Maryland (61), Miami (Fla.) (55), Minnesota (54), North Carolina State (39), Old Dominion (104), Penn State (105), Purdue (37), Rutgers (115), SMU (38) and Tulsa (77). (NCAA golf rankings)

THE COURSE 
The Golf Club at Briars Creek opened in 2001. Overlooking the Briars Creek and Kiawah River, the course embraces the landscape and vegetation of Johns Island. Designed by Rees Jones, the course blends together golf and the natural environment with water, marshes, wetlands and wildlife all around.

LAST MEET
Iowa finished sixth at the MountainView Collegiate, finishing with a 54-hole total of 897 (290-311-296).  Senior Paula Miranda and sophomore Ximena Benites paced the team, tying for 11th with 221 totals. It was Benites team-best fourth top-20 showing and Miranda’s third top-20 finish.

OF NOTE… 
• Senior Paula Miranda has posted a team-best 74.33 scoring average this season with three top-20 and one top 10 finish.  She has led the team in six of the team’s seven tournaments this season.
• Miranda has a team-best six rounds at or below par this season, giving her 26 such rounds in her collegiate career.
• Sophomore Ximena Benites fired back-to-back 69s at the Hurricane Invitational, matching the team’s lowest round of the fall.  She posted a pair of rounds at or below par at the MountainView Collegiate en route to tying for 11th place. 
• Three Hawkeyes -- Miranda, Benites and Maura Peters -- are the only players to compete in all seven tournaments this season.
• Iowa shot a two-over par 290 during the opening round of the MoutainView Collegiate.  It was tied for the team’s second-best round of the season.
• Iowa won the Diane Thomason Invitational in October at Finkbine Golf Course.  It was the program’s first win since 2021. 
• The Hawkeyes finished with an 878 total at the Hurricane Invitational, which is the ninth-best 54-hole score in program history.

UP NEXT 
Iowa will head to Old Hickory, Tennessee, for the Nashville Invitational on March 23-25.
