Iowa softball fell to Louisiana Lafayette, 3-0, and to #21/22 Alabama, 5-1, on the final day of the Alabama Spring Break Showdown in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Iowa softball fell to Louisiana Lafayette (ULL), 3-0, and to #21/22 Alabama, 5-1, on the final day of the Alabama Spring Break Showdown on Saturday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium. 
Freshman Talia Tretton (3-3) made her ninth start of the 2025 season against Louisiana Lafayette and pitched 5 1/3 innings before Adams came in and pitched 2/3 in relief. Tretton allowed three runs on five hits, while fanning three. Sophomore Devin Simon led the way going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Junior Jalen Adams (11-2) made her 11th start of the 2025 season against Alabama. Adams allowed five runs, three earned, on six hits, while fanning three. Four different Hawkeyes record at least one hit in the game. Freshman Allyssa Ramos led the way with two hits and one RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Iowa started the game getting two runners on in the first but added nothing to the board. Tretton got the start in the circle for the Hawkeyes and the Cajuns got on the board early on a squeeze bunt in the first. 
Tretton and Simon each recorded one out hits in the second but Iowa was not able to capitalize and get on the board. Tretton recorded two strikeouts in the bottom of the second but ULL managed to push another run across on an infield single to make it, 2-0. 
Both teams were able to get one runner on in the third, but didn't add to the score. Iowa ended the inning on a a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat. Simon started the fifth inning with with a double to left field for Iowa but the next three Hawkeye hitters were retired. The ULL pitchers continued to shine as the Hawkeyes were retired in order in the top of the sixth. ULL added an insurance run in the home half of the sixth after a one out double came around to score on an RBI triple. Iowa was retired in order to end the game in the seventh. 
Iowa finished the game with no runs on three hits and one error. ULL finished the game with three runs on six hits and one error. 
Game Two
Both teams scattered runners across the first three innings of play but both pitchers managed to keep the game scoreless. 
Senior Hannah Lindsay got things going in the fourth inning with a single through the left side. Ramos got the Hawkeyes on the board, 1-0, with an RBI single to center. Alabama quickly answered back as they loaded the bases to start the home half of the inning. The Hawkeye defense looked to have gotten a double play in the inning but an errant throw allowed the Tide to take the lead, 2-1. Alabama plated another run in the inning on an RBI groundout. 
Berry reached on a one out double but was stranded there as the fifth inning came to a close. Alabama added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth after they loaded the bases once again. One run was plated on an RBI ground out and another on a bases loaded walk to extend the Tide lead, 5-1. Iowa was retired in order in the final two frames to end the game. 
The Hawkeyes finished the game with one runs on five hits and three errors. Alabama finished the game with five runs on six hits.

  • Six Hawkeyes have started every game this season; Simon, Young, Roman, junior Tory Bennett, Ramos, and redshirt junior Desiree Rivera.
  • Lindsay continues to lead the Hawkeye batting efforts with a batting average of .345, including seven runs, 20 hits, three home runs, and 21 RBIs.

Iowa (14-8) returns to action Wednesday, March 12, for their home opener in a doubleheader against St. Thomas. The games will be played at 3pm and 5pm CT at Bob Pearl Field in Iowa City, Iowa. Both games will be available to stream on Big Ten+ ($).
