Hawkeyes Finish 2 Rounds at Boilermaker Invite

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana – The University of Iowa men’s golf team opened play at the Boilermaker Invitational on Saturday at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course, finishing even par through two rounds to sit in 11th place.

Junior Gage Messingham led the way for the Hawkeyes, firing a one-over-par 72 in the opening round with three birdies. He followed that performance with a four-under 67 in the second round, tallying four birdies on the front nine alone. Messingham sits at three-under-par overall, tied for 14th individually.

Sophomore Max Tjoa got off to a fast start, recording birdies on four of his first six holes to make the turn at four-under 32 in round one. He tied for Iowa’s lowest round of the day with a 67 (-4) in the first round. Tjoa carded a three-over 74 in the second round, finishing at one-under overall and tied for 20th.

Freshman Chance Rinkol turned in a steady performance, opening with an even-par 71 that included three birdies on the front nine. He followed that up with a one-under 70 in the second round, highlighted by four birdies, to also finish tied for 20th at one-under-par.

Ryan Shellberg recorded a 74 (+3) in round one and a 73 (+2) in the second round. Ian Meyer rounded out the Hawkeye lineup with a 78 (+7) in the opening round and a three-over 74 in round two.
