EAST LANSING, Mich. - The University of Iowa softball team fell to Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at Secchia Stadium, 4-2, in game two of the three-game series.

Freshman Talia Tretton (9-8) got the start in the circle and threw six and 2/3 innings. Tretton surrendered three run on three hit and fanned three. Junior Jalen Adams got the loss (21-6) as she entered in relief in the seventh. Senior Hannah Lindsay was the only Hawkeye to have a multi hit game. Tretton went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore Jena Young was on for Iowa in the first inning after being walked, but no other Hawkeyes were able to join her on base. The Spartnas got runners on the corners in the home half but Tretton left them both stranded as the inning came to a close.

Iowa managed to have base runners in the second and third inning, but were unable to gain any momentum to plate a run. The Spartans were first on the board in the third as a lead off single came around to score on an RBI double to right center.

Tretton was on base for Iowa to start the fourth after being hit by a pitch, but was left stranded. Michigan State had one runner on from a single, who was left on base. The Spartan pitcher was able to keep the Hawkeye bats quiet through five innings of play.

Redshirt junior Desiree Rivera started the sixth being hit by a pitch and with one out Lindsay singled to left field. Tretton came to the plate and singled down the left line, scoring one run, tying the game, 1-1. Tretton faced the minimum in the bottom of the sixth, courtesy of a double play started by junior Avery Jackson.

Iowa came out ready in the seventh as Young led off with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Rivera reached on a one out walk to put two on for the Hawkeyes. Young came home on a throwing error by the Spartans to give Iowa the lead, 2-1.

Tretton returned to the circle in the bottom of the inning and allowed two baserunners on walks but managed to get two outs. Adams entered the game in the circle with runners on the corners and surrendered a three-run home run as Michigan State walked it off, 4-2.

Iowa finished the game with two runs on five hits. Michigan State scored four runs on four hits and had one error.
