NAPLES, Florida – The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished play at the fifth annual Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawkeyes finished tied for eighth with at a final score of 896 (+32).
Junior Gage Messingham led the Hawkeyes overall, shooting an even par 72 in the final round with three birdies on the back nine to make the turn two-under par. The Arvada, Colorado native finished the tournament in 19th with a score of 219 (+3) after firing even par in the final two rounds.
Freshman Ryan Shellberg finished in the top 25 with a total score of 223 (+7). The Prosper, Texas, native rounded out the day with a five-over par 78. Sophomore Max Tjoa followed for the Hawkeyes capping off his performance with a two-over-par 74, tying for 37th.
Senior Ian Meyer and freshman Chance Rinkol each carded a four-over-par 76 in the final round. Rinkol made the turn shooting one under par, and Meyer shot two birdies in his final round to finish tied for 37th.
Iowa ranked third in par three scoring with an average of 3.28. Shellberg tied for second in par three scoring playing them at even par, and Messingham had the best average on par fives at 4.42.
