LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The 15th ranked University of Iowa field hockey used a dominant first quarter to secure a 5-1 victory over Louisville on Sunday afternoon at Trager Stadium.
The Hawkeyes scored four goals in the opening 15 minutes, using early pressure to build a lead.
Dionne van Aalsum opened the scoring just over a minute into the match with an unassisted goal – her 13th of the season. Fréderique van Cleef, Milly Short, and Felicia Zonnenberg each added first-quarter goals to give Iowa a commanding 4-0 lead.
Van Aalsum struck again in the second quarter, converting a penalty stroke for her 14th goal of the year. Louisville’s lone goal came in the third period from Annabel Sep.
Iowa’s defense was solid throughout, limiting Louisville to just 10 shots and six penalty corners. Goalkeeper Mia Magnotta made eight saves, including five in the final quarter, to help preserve the win.
Iowa finished with 14 shots and five corners.
