Hawkeyes Host Iowa State, Travel to Missouri State

The No. 11 University of Iowa women’s soccer team plays host to Iowa State on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. (CT) at the Iowa Soccer Complex in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. The Hawkeyes then travel to Springfield, Missouri, where they take on Missouri State at 1 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, Sept. 7.

THIS WEEK
The No. 11 University of Iowa women’s soccer team plays host to Iowa State on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. (CT) at the Iowa Soccer Complex in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. The Hawkeyes then travel to Springfield, Missouri, where they take on Missouri State at 1 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, Sept. 7.

SCOUTING THE CYCLONES
- Iowa State comes into the match with a 1-0-2 overall record. The Cyclones have posted ties against Portland State and Drake while picking up a road win at Creighton. Iowa State’s match against No. 15 Memphis on Aug. 30 was cancelled as weather prevented Memphis from being able to travel to Ames, Iowa.
- Each of Iowa State’s four goals on this season have come from four different players. Likewise, each of their team’s five assists have come from five different players.
- Goalkeeper Kasey Cannistraro has started in all three games for the Cyclones. Cannistraro has allowed three goals with 12 saves on the season. She posts a .800 save percentage, tallying one shutout on the year.
- Iowa State has put 15-of-33 (.455) shots on goal so far this season. 
- The Cyclones were picked to finish 14th in the Big 12 preseason poll.
- Through three games, Iowa State has gone without a loss. It’s the latest the Cyclones have gone into the season without posting a loss since 2013. 

SERIES HISTORY - IOWA STATE
The Hawkeyes are 16-8-2 all-time against the Cyclones, including 9-2-2 all-time against Iowa State when playing the match at home. The Hawkeyes have won two straight in the rivalry, including winning eight straight at the Iowa Soccer Complex. Iowa’s last loss to Iowa State at home came on Sept. 7, 2005. Iowa’s longest winning streak in the rivalry was six straight games from 2008-13. Iowa looks to extend their win streak against the Cyclones to three-straight for the fourth time in series history. Iowa State is yet to win three-straight over the Hawkeyes.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Missouri State heads into the week with a 2-3-1 overall record. Prior to playing the Hawkeyes, they take on Saint Louis on the road on Thursday. The Bears are 0-2 at home, falling to Kansas City and Missouri.
- The Bears have totaled 10 goals on the season. Abby Hansen. Reilly Heman, and Brook Cattoor each co-lead the team with two goals apiece.
- Heman leads the Bears with 17 shots. She has put seven of those shots on goal.
- Goalkeeper Ella Becker has played in all six games. She has allowed 10 goals (1.84) and posted 28 saves. Her save percentage is .737 as she has posted one shutout.
- Goalkeeper Victoria Spahn has appeared in two games where she has allowed one goal in 50 minutes of action. Spahn has four saves with a save percentage of .800. 

SERIES HISTORY - MISSOURI STATE
Iowa is 1-0-1 against Missouri State all-time. Their most recent matchup came on Nov. 15, 2024, when Iowa hosted the Bears in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Hawkeyes defeated Missouri State, 2-1, on their way to the Sweet 16. The first matchup between the two teams came on Sept. 15, 2005, where the teams tied, 1-1, after two overtimes.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Sofia Bush, Millie Greer, and Liana Tarasco were named Big Ten Players to Watch. The Hawkeyes were picked sixth in the Big Ten Preseason Poll. Bush was also named a midfielder to watch by Top Drawer Soccer.
- Iowa is filled with veteran leadership, rostering eight graduate students and three seniors. 
- Graduate student Price Loposer’s 83 games played in her career are tied for the second most games played amongst active players.
- Meike Ingles (lower leg injury), Eva Pattison (redshirt), and Abby Warner (redshirt) will be out for the rest of the 2025 season.
- Iowa’s No. 13 preseason ranking was the highest preseason ranking in program history. It also marked just the second time Iowa earned a preseason ranking.
- The Hawkeyes No. 7 ranking in Top Drawer Soccer’s poll earlier this season marked the highest ranking in program history.
- The Hawkeyes graduated the program’s all-time winningest goalkeeper in Macy Enneking. Enneking defended the goal for Iowa in each of the last three seasons.
- Kenzie Roling, Millie Greer, and Sofia Bush were voted team captains.
- Greer has played and started in every game. She has also played the full 90 minutes in every game, the only Hawkeye to do so. Greer has totaled 450 minutes so far this season.  

DIIANNI EXTENDED
- Head coach Dave DiIanni signed a contract extension on Feb. 27, 2025, that extended the programs all-time winningest coach through 2029.
- Last season, Iowa finished 13th in the country in attendance and second in the Big Ten.
- The Hawkeyes finished the 2024 campaign ranked No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 14 in Top Drawer Soccer’s poll. The No. 12 postseason ranking was the highest postseason ranking in program history and just the second time the Hawkeyes were ranked in the final poll.
- DiIanni is 3-2 in his Iowa career against opponents ranked sixth or higher. Before his arrival, Iowa was 0-7 in those games and was outscored, 29-4.

HAWKEYE FAITHFUL
- After hosting three home games at Iowa Soccer Complex, Iowa’s average attendance of 2,178 fans ranks sixth in the country and first in the Big Ten.
- Iowa’s home match against TCU marked a regular season crowd attendance record with 2,382 fans.
- The year prior to DiIanni’s arrival, in 2013, the Hawkeyes averaged an attendance of 522 fans per game. Their attendance ranked 76th in the country and eighth in the Big Ten.

2 FOR THE MONEY
Iowa’s record is 58-3-3 in its last 64 games when scoring two goals or more, which dates back to October 2017.  

FRESH FACES, BIG PLAYS
- Of Iowa’s 10 goals on the season, six have come from newcomers. Olivia Lebdaoui (2), Liana Tarasco (2), Josie Jones (1), and Eileen Solomon (1).
- Of Iowa’s nine assists on the year, four have come from newcomers. Elle Wildman (2), Iba Oching (1), Price Loposer (1), and Liana Tarasco (1).
- Newcomers have combined to play 2, 159 minutes this season. 10 newcomers have played in at least one game while six of them have started in at least one game.

2024 MILESTONES
- At 15-3-4 the Hawkeyes tied the program record for most victories in a season. Iowa won 15 games in 2013 and 2019.
- The Hawkeyes finished with four wins against ranked opponents in 2024 which was a program record. Prior to Coach DiIanni’s arrival in 2014, Iowa had a total of nine wins against ranked opponents. In DiIanni’s tenure they have 14.
- Iowa’s eight wins in conference marked a program record for most wins in the Big Ten regular season.
- Iowa advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history a season ago.
- The Hawkeyes defended their home turf, winning nine games at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The nine wins at home tied a program record.
- Iowa rose to as high as No. 9 in the polls last year, at the time, marking a program record.

SINCE 2019, IOWA...
- Won a pair of Big Ten Tournament Championships in 2021 and 2023
- Won all four NCAA Tournament matches in program history
- Made four out of the five NCAA Tournament appearances in program history
- Advanced to their first Sweet Sixteen in program history
- Has earned 12 postseason wins
- Has posted 56 shutouts
- Defeated 11 ranked opponents, nine top 15 opponents and two top five opponents
- Saw Coach DiIanni surpass 300 career wins and become the winningest coach in program history
- Set a new home attendance record (2,629); the overtime win over Bucknell was the first NCAA Tournament game hosted at the Iowa Soccer Complex
- Set a home average attendance record (1,479); in the 2024 season. Iowa’s attendance in the 2024 season ranked 13th nationally and second amongst Big Ten teams.

CY-HAWK RILVARY
The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series began in 2004. The series consists of 12 different sporting events between the two teams. The football matchup is worth three points while every other matchup is worth two points. Iowa State currently leads the all-time series 10-9-1.

UP NEXT
The Hawkeyes play host to Northwestern in the Big Ten opener. The match is set to kick-off on Friday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. (CT) at the Iowa Soccer Complex.
