Hawkeyes Win 2 Matches at ITAs

The Iowa women’s tennis team opened qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships with two victories on Monday.

CARY, N.C. – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team opened qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships with two victories on Monday.

Daianne Hayashida began her singles campaign with a strong showing, defeating Zoie Epps of Louisiana Tech, 6-2, 7-5.

In doubles play, senior Tereza Dejnozkova and Hayashida edged Jade Groen and Rinon Okuwaki of Clemson in a 7-5, 4-6 (11-9) tiebreaker.

Dejnozkova and Hayashida will return to action on Tuesday, competing for a place in the Main Draw.

“It was a great day,” said Iowa head coach Sasha Boros. “Daianne had a competitive, hard-fought singles match. I was proud of her for closing that out. We won a hard-fought doubles match against Clemson to advance. I’m proud of the girls for continuing to compete hard and step up in big moments.”
