Hawkeyes Climb 7 Spots At Visit Tennessee Collegiate

The University of Iowa men’s golf team posted a four-under par (276) which was the fourth best round on Saturday at the 16-team Visit Knoxville Collegiate to climb seven spots to sixth place.

LOUDON, Tenn. -- The University of Iowa men’s golf team posted a four-under par (276) which was the fourth best round on Saturday at the 16-team Visit Knoxville Collegiate to climb seven spots to sixth place.

Iowa is tied with Kentucky at two-over par after 36 holes of competition being played at the Tennessee National Golf Course.

Senior Gage Messingham fired a team-best three-under par 70 on Saturday, playing 17 of the 18 holes at or below par, carding an eagle and two birdies, and is tied for 58th place.

Freshman Bennett Warren is tied for 31st following a second-round one-under par 69. Warren birdied the 11th and 14th holes on Saturday.

Junior Max Tjoa and redshirt freshman Grant Gudgel shot even-par 70 on Saturday. Tjoa sank a team-best four birdies, while Gudgel made three birdies in the second round. After 36 holes, Tjoa is tied for 10th place at three-under par, while Gudgel is one-over par and is tied for 31st.

Sophomore Chance Rinkol posted a four-over par 74 and is tied for 81st.

“Much better team performance today. We played through rain all day and the guys showed a lot of toughness. We need to build off of today and finish with another good one tomorrow. I’m proud of how Gage responded. He didn’t have his typical ball striking in round one but he competed. He proved he can play and score without hitting it great."
